Overview

Get More Distance

USB 2.0 normally only extends up to 15 feet. While that seems like a fair distance, it ends up being limiting in certain applications. There is a wide range of applications for the U-Link like setting up an inexpensive security system using USB cameras, connecting to scanners or printers in another room, or industry specific applications such as medical diagnostics and imaging, conference rooms, and digital signage.

Powered Receiver

Many USB over Cat5e/Cat6 extenders draw power from the computer through the USB cable. The problem with this setup is that you could experience a drop in voltage making some devices impossible to extend. The U-Link has its own power source with 4 separate ports that gives you the most flexibility out of any USB extender.

Note: Receiver side must be powered.

Plug-and-Play Installation

Installation is easy. Simply connect the included power adapter and the included USB 2.0 cable to the host computer unit. Then connect the sender unit to the receiver unit using any cat5e/cat6 cable (sold separately). The U-Link can then be used with any four USB devices.

Getting the Most out of your Extender

Since Cat5e/Cat6 extenders (aka Baluns) don't work the same way as typical ethernet networks, the quality of your network cable makes a huge difference in your setup. The bottom line is that Ethernet networks have corrective measures in place to help balance the data load and prevent packet loss, while point-to-point extenders like this don't have this option. For this reason, using cable with extra shielding and extra-robust conductors (like our SSTP Cat6 cables made for extenders) to overcome any potential attenuation issues is recommended. Pros: I can use a usb mic and 3 webcams with this for streaming

Cons: I have to put two cameras on 15 fps, and one on 30 fps as this hub cannot handle anything better or the cameras won’t work.

Other: Works good enough as I haven’t seen any other way to put my computer far away from my webcams.

Great Solution for a Small Problem

Pros: Worked 1st time out of the box. Of course no drivers required as you are simply extending your cable so your computer sees the devices as if it were connected over a standard USB 2.0 cable.

Cons: Wish it was more future proof (e.g.: USB 3.0, for the money). May have a bad port (i.e..: did not recognize mouse when plugged in all the way but when pulled it out partially, the computer beeped and recognized the mouse. In other ports, recognized mouse immediately. Will investigate further before asking for a replacement. The red LED power indicator light flashes like a strobe light when the computer is turned on at both the send and receive end. Sewell's response is: "There isn't a problem as long as the unit is working correctly, the indicator light just triggers when it's negotiating a USB signal, which isn't always constant. If you're finding that annoying you can just cover up that LED with some tape or a spot of paint." I am not sure that is a proper fix but that may be what I have to do because it is really annoying (to me anyway). Without the strobe effect, would have rated this product 5/5.

Other: Have a Logitech G910 Keyboard and Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 connected and both work great. Chose this product over others from Amazon because I saw complaints that other brands did not work as advertised. Bought from Sewell Direct because it was $30 cheaper than Amazon.
