Overview

Silverback Banana Plugs Logo
Silverback Flex

These Silverback banana plugs have the quality you’ve come to expect from Sewell, including; gold plated connectors, a heavy duty but light casing, and a tight cable-screw design. What sets these banana plugs apart are its unique 2 screw lock design. This connection will secure your cable more than a single screw, or open screw design. Dual screw connectivity provides a secure connection, durability, and the most crisp and clear signal possible with more signal transmission through contact.

Sewell Silverback Flex Connectors

A great new product is off the production line at Sewell Direct. The Silverback Flex is a self-crimping connection, for all inputs that are spring-loaded, or simply accept a wire only connection. The Silverback Flex marries the beautiful and sturdy design of the Silverback Banana plug, with the need for wire connection. We’ve developed a special non-conductive coating for our aluminum casing on the Silverback, which will inhibit the plugs from electrical conduction, ensuring the user a perfect connection, with no worries of shorting your speakers.

Banana Plug Diagram

How to Install Silverback Banana Plugs:

  1. Unscrew the jacket to reveal the core of the Silverback Banana Plug.
  2. Feed the bare conductor of the speaker wire into the core of the banana plug. (loosen the 2 small screws to accommodate the size of your speaker wire if needed)
  3. Tighten the 2 screws to secure the speaker wire to the core of the Silverback Banana Plug.
  4. Replace the jacket over the core.
  5. Your Silverback Banana Plug is ready for connection.

All in all you should only need 30 seconds for this entire operation.

What Are Banana Plugs?

Today, many electronics use the banana plug interface, also known as binding post (referring to this connection in its female form). This female binding post connection that accepts this banana plug is found commonly on virtually all audio/video receivers, speaker wall plates, and more.

Banana plugs offer an alternative to inserting a bare speaker wire into the equipment. Often a bare speaker connection is not as reliable as a guaranteed banana plug connection. Wires tend to get pulled out or frizzy after time passes. Banana plugs require only one install, giving you a permanent and robust connector at the end of your speaker wire.

What makes the Silverback the banana plug of choice?

There are some key features of these banana plugs, which make them the installers choice.

Silverback Flex Pin
  • 24K gold plating on the connectors for a lifetime of use, with a crystal clear signal.
  • Pure copper connectors are at the core of this banana plug to allow perfect signal pass-through.
  • Double screws, when properly fastened, are said to be as effective as soldering, but clearly with much less hassle.
  • The casing unscrews over the tip, so you don’t have to worry about keeping it on the cable when installing.

All these features are to provide the installer with ease-of-use and durability, and to provide the end-user with a crisp clear audio.

Great Idea, Poorly Executed

Pros: Great Idea

Cons: ...Poorly Executed Poor Quality Control - Better to use similar Flex Pin Connectors from Monster and Ultralink

Other: Seems nobody at Sewell reads comments on Return Authorization Request, so will try here - Simply, they are not suitable for the intended purpose. Flex Pin Connectors do not fit the spring-loaded connector inputs of my older/ vintage stereo equipment. I have tried them without success on a number of Yamaha, Sansui and Sherwood amplifiers and receivers. The solder ‘blob’ at the tip is too large and misshapen to allow the braided wire to fit. I’m terribly disappointed - I really had hoped to be able to ‘sing your praises’ on a number of enthusiast bulletin boards/ forums that I am an active member. Can you please escalate this to the proper staff. Canada Post shipping rates are such that it is not feasible to ship these back for refund. I do want to alert you to this problem, and hope that future production can be corrected...

Perfect Fit

Pros: Secure connection Flexible Pin Tips Non conduction bases Easy fast connection Colored Coded bases Fits multiple sized up to 12 gauge wire Tight connection Professional looks and build quality. Lightweight outershell. No soldering but with solder quality

Cons: ???? Haven't encoutered any, doubt I will. I didn't get them free or get paid for this review. lol....

Other: By far blows away the competition and higher priced ones also. I have used much more expensive connectors with less satisfaction. The package came and I was like a kid at Christmas in anticipation. I was not disapointed. The review that gave this 4 stars waiting to see about multiple uses?? I have done this already moving speakers around my systems and this makes it super pleasant. I don't even care if they don't last a lifetime, at this price it is worth replacing any I even suspect might have a challenge and I don't even have to. I bought more than I needed and will be buying more just to stock and have on hand. If you have vintage stuff it's a must. Even if you don't, many speakers for surround systems demand a pin type connection especially if you are wall mounting and I have switched my more expensive solid tip monster pin ones with these as the connection is much better on the screw down binding posts. Flexible tips let you work it into the best postion for the spring clip, nice touch there. I wouldn't want stiff tips for a spring load as it would assure you of the best connection. I'm not going to give you a fruited up version on sound improvement quality but rest assured I'm assured they are getting full advantage of the connection improvement. Buy these and don't look back. Along with the Banana plugs I will not be purchasing another brand ever period ! Ask any carpenter on which is better nailing, clamping, or screws. They will tell you screws will last much longer and hold the best.

great connector for spring-loaded binding posts

Pros: Nonconductive connector No soldering needed Two-set screw connection

Cons: A more narrow tip on the gold stem would be beneficial

Other: The connector does a good job for spring-loaded connections. I'm using 12 AWG wire without a problem (with plenty of room to spare). The picture in the connectors makes the gold stem appear perfectly straight; that's not the case with the actual connectors I received. The stem is semi-rigid, though slightly bent in varied places. This didn't hinder the connection/install. I guess I was just thinking of the webiste pic in my mind vs. what I actually received. The connectors definitely helped alleviate the hassle of getting the 12 AWG wire into the spring-loaded post. I don't know why manufacturers have to make spring-loaded binding posts on receivers so friggin small--it's a pain to get good quality wire into the post. The two set screws tightended nicely and the connector appears very solid. I'm only rating 4 stars at this time as I'm curious how the connectors will hold up over time after they experience multiple insertions/removals. It would be nice if the gold tip/stem had a more narrow point, even if the tip went from slightly narrow at the tip to it's current thickness at the base of the gold stem--this would assist in more easily "threading the needle" and getting the tip through the spring-loaded binding post hole. I looked around before pulling the trigger on this purchase; I wanted a non-solder solution that had a non-conductive connector. The outer casing of the Silverback ensures that the connectors aren't conductive and they won't short out the speakers/receiver.

Great Sound From Little Connectors...

Coop's Dental - 11/20/2018 5:34:58 PM

Relatively easy to mate with the 14 gauge cable. The wires fit well into all of my various amp and speaker configurations. No muss no fuss connectors with the correct screwdriver. Great barrel and screw contact surface areas. Very warm Surround Sound with older 301's and rebuilt floor Infinities. Great channel separation, with very good USA 14 gauge wires, and very quiet (not a bit of hum or hiss).
