Cat6 Cable for HD-Link and Link Series Extenders

Does the Type of Cat5e or Cat6 Cable You Use Matter?

Since Cat5e/Cat6 extenders (aka Baluns) work differently than typical ethernet networks, the quality of the network cable you use really does matter. The bottom line is that Ethernet networks have corrective measures in place to help balance the data load and prevent packet loss, while point-to-point extenders like this don't have this option. For this reason, using cable with extra shielding and extra-robust conductors (like our SSTP Cat6 cables made for extenders) to overcome any potential attenuation issues is recommended. You can read more in this article.

Get More Distance

USB only extends 15 feet, while that seems like a fair distance, it ends up being limiting in certain applications. Using the U-Link gives you the option of setting up an inexpensive security system using USB cameras, connecting to scanners or printers in another room, as well as industry specific applications such as medical diagnostics and imaging, industrial automation and control, security, education, digital signage, and more.

Powered Receiver

Many USB over Cat5e/Cat6 extenders draw power from the computer through the USB cable. The problem with this setup is that you could experience a drop in voltage. That means you will need to get a powered hub in order to use certain devices successfully. The U-Link has its own power source, which means that you don’t need to buy anything else to get the most out of your USB 2.0 products.

Plug-and-Play Installation

Installation is easy. Simply connect the included power adapter and the included USB 2.0 cable to the host computer unit. Then connect the sender unit to the receiver unit using any cat5e/cat6 cable (sold separately). The U-Link can then be used with any two USB devices.

 WARNING:

A note about webcams:

Cameras are one of the most demanding applications for USB. A lot of factors such as resolution, format, compression, distance, cabling, latency, and interference can affect how well a webcam works, or if it even works at all. We've had the U-Link work with a lot of webcams, but we've also seen cases where certain HD webcams don't work with the U-Link. It is hard to know beforehand if the U-Link will work with your particular setup. If you have questions, you can give our tech team a call and they can help you get a better idea, or if you want to try it out, we have a great return policy in case it doesn't meet your needs.

Pros: Needed a reliable USB-over-CAT5 extender for a Logitech C930E HD USB Camera. Tried a TrippLite model B202-150 and the computer wouldn't recognize the camera. Installed a Sewell SW-30224 and the camera came up on the first try. Very pleased with this product.

Question:

I live in France, and I would like to know if you provide french A/C adapter, or at least if a common adapter will work corectly with your product (i mean about frequancy difference, 60hz/50hz )

Answer:

This doesn't include a European adapter, but a power supply that converts A/C current to 12V 2A will work great.
