More Screen Space

We live in the age of multi-tasking. Both at work and at home we need all of the screen real estate we can get. The problem is, our devices, and therefore our screens are getting smaller and smaller. Additionally, you can’t add video ports to most devices these days (pretty much anything except for those old fashioned, tower style PCs), that can cause you problems if you want to have two or more monitors. That’s what makes the Minideck 3.0 so great, you can easily add up to 6 monitors (up to 4 on Mac) via USB. And with the new chipset and USB 3.0 in our newest Minideck, you are assured the best USB graphics performance. Learn more about the benefits of multiple monitors.

New Chipset

Slow transfer rates can cause you to have choppy streaming and lag when watching video. By upgrading the chipset we have greatly increased the speed and power of the Minideck 3.0 by adding real-time adaptive compression technology. In order for your computer, the Minideck, and your monitor to transfer data, the data needs to be compressed. This process of compressing and decompressing data can affect your transfer rates. Real-time adaptive compression balances compression methods from moment to moment based on content, USB bandwidth, and CPU power availability. That means that you have the best possible USB graphics experience at all times.

USB 3.0

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 is capable of achieving transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps. That’s ten times faster than USB 2.0. USB 3.0 is also bidirectional, which allows your external devices to send and receive data simultaneously. All of that translates into fast, reliable video that you can display on multiple screens without lag.

Note: If you don’t have USB 3.0 ports, the Minideck 3.0 will still work and the updated chipset means it will still be faster than older Minidecks. However, to take full advantage of the Minideck 3.0s capabilities, you’ll need USB 3.0 ports on your device.

Drivers

After a one time driver installation the Minideck will work just by plugging it in. Drivers and instructions are on an included flash drive for quick easy installation.

Pros: The Minideck 3.0 works. I use it to run a 2nd external monitor off of my laptop. I installed the software on the included usb flash drive, then hooked the Minideck up to my usb 3.0 hub. Now I have two 24" monitors side by side and I can't tell the difference between the one hooked up through the Minideck and the one hooked up to the HDMI port on my laptop.

Cons:

Other:

Pros: Big fan of having extra monitors and this little box delivers with clear graphics. As an add-on hardware it was super easy to set up and no real issues for Mac user. Seems to be a little more expensive than the units at the store but Sewell makes quality products that work well.

Cons: As an add-on graphics card this product works well but there is some flickering around the edge of the open application when scrolling within an open window. This is a minor issue given what the magic box is being asked to do.

Other: Overall we are pleased with the product given it is impossible to added a second graphic card to a Mac Air. Rated at 4.5 (almost a 5).

Great for multi-monitor configurations

Pros: Great for expanding your desktop to multiple monitors.

Cons: Connector is very delicate - I've had 2 break and there is no repair option. The cables that come with the units are hefty which is nice, but I think this contributed to the breakage.

Other: I have a PC with 6 monitors - two come from the internal NVidia card and the other 4 are driven by the MiniDecks. For casual use, including full-screen YouTube videos there is no latency and no noticeable CPU drain on the host PC. The magnet mounts are a very nice touch, but the magnets aren't strong enough especially given the extra weight from the cables.
