Description

While high-performance speakers are one of the most important in your home theater or music system, to get the most of our of your speakers, high-quality speaker wire is essential. Thanks to Silverback Speaker Wire, audiophile sound quality is now easier than ever to achieve.

Highest strand count

Silverback speaker wire was developed with the highest quality standards in mind. Most 12 AWG speaker cables use 90 to 100 threads of copper, we’ve put 259 strands into each conductor of our Silverback cable. This allows for less distortion, deeper bass, better imaging, and cleaner highs from your sound system.

Pure, oxygen-free copper

Not only does Silverback speaker wire have a higher strand count, it is also made up of pure, oxygen-free copper. Cheaper speaker cables have other alloys mixed with the copper in the conductors. This makes the cable cheaper, but also reduces the quality of the sound. Air pockets in the copper can also reduce sound quality and can even ruin the cable over time.

Silverback banana plugs

Our pre-terminated cables come with Silverback banana plugs, giving you the easiest and best possible connection. These precision 24 k gold connectors have a pure copper core for perfect signal pass-through. They also feature double screws, which when fastened, are just as effective as soldering while making them removable as well.

Good speaker wire, banana plugs could be better

Silverback Speaker Wire is good. In wall rated, oxygen free, high strand count, etc… No problem with this wire. 10 feet of 12 gauge wire tested at .000-.001 ohms for resistance (excellent). The problem I encountered was with the Silverback banana plugs. They look high quality and are gold plated. They secure the wire inside the plug well. Screws are not tiny which is a big plus. Nice shiny and smooth gold plated finish. The down side of the Silverback banana plugs I found in my experience were: They are constructed with a magnetic metal (interference), the tip of the banana plug separates from the core that holds the speaker wire when pulled from a speaker or AMP. This could be a potential problem should a plug decide to pop loose. The outer protective jacket on the plug looks and feels like aluminum which is a conductor. I also was getting some noise through the speakers when adjusting my sound levels (scratching noise). Silverback 12 AWG speaker wire and silverback banana plugs tested out of the package between .002-.003 ohms resistance (good) for 10 feet. The noise during tone adjustments concerned me with the silverback banana plugs being the culprit of the problem as I have a high end and very sensitive NAD receiver.
I purchased some Sure Grip 100 silver plated copper banana plugs from Audioqwest and installed these on the silverback speaker wire. Scratching noises from sound adjustments reduced by 90%. Seems like I have a little better sound and much better conductivity with the Audioqwest SG 100 plugs. I tested the same set-up length of Silverback 12AWG wire (10 feet) with the Audioqwest Sure Grip 100 bananas and tested out between .000-.001 ohms resistance (excellent). Scratching noise went 90% away with tone adjustments. Definitely the silverback banana plugs proved to be contributing to my noise problem.
On a budget for the average person, silverback banana plug are probably fine. I would just make sure out of the box to apply a drop of epoxy adhesive between the tip of the banana plug and where it is pressure fitted into the cylinder portion of the plug. There is no weld there and the reason why they are separating. I couldn’t risk a plug separating and shorting oout on another wire as I am bi-amping and need 100% confidence these plugs won’t come apart. No Silverback banana plugs for me. The silverback wire is excellent. I don’t believe in all the hype of expensive long grain copper, etc… Might work but, your ears will never tell the difference.

I Can Hear the Difference

I was looking to upgrade my speaker cables. So when my wife asked what I wanted for Christmas, I asked around and someone recommended Sewell Silverbacks. They are just what I wanted, good quality cables that didn't break the bank. Not only did she get me cables from my main speakers, but also cables for my two subs. It took about an hour to change everything out. The banana plugs fit very tight for a great connection. What a difference, I can actually hear the difference in the sound quality. Everything sounds more distinct, especially in the lower registers. I was a little leery about these due to the reviews concerning an odor. I asked Sewell online and was told the issue had been resolved and it has. There is no odor at all. I recommend these highly.
