"Great experience and exactly what I was looking for. I would definitely shop with Sewell again."

This adapter is the easiest way to add a serial port to your computer. Many PDAs, digital cameras, GPS units, barcode scanners, and other equipment require a serial connection and many newer computers don't have serial ports.

This product has posts to attach, need USB to serial 2ft with screws instead?

USB to Serial Diagram

The cable is two feet long. If you are looking for a longer USB to Serial adapter add a USB extension cable or a standard serial cable to your order. If you don't want any attached cable, check out the Plug-in version.

What if I need to use a USB device with a computer that only has serial ports? Then you will need to add a USB 2.0 PCI Card.

The adapter works with 9-pin serial devices. Click here if you need a 25-pin adapter.

If you need a USB to DB9 Female, you can change the serial end with a Female to Female gender changer

Need a manual serial switch?

Get a USB to Serial adapter with standard thumbscrew connectors so you can make sure you have a secure connection that won't accidentally come apart.

Pros: Reliable install in 98 to win XP. Each adapter maintains the eame comport number even when mulitple are installed. They are absolutely plug and play. The jack end has nuts that allow easy install to a screw in db9f adapter. I love em and have bought about 25.

Cons: None so far.

Other: This company ships very fast, even when you use their free shipping.

USB to Serial Adapter

Pros: It fits the need. I purchased a new laptop and didn't notice that it didn't have a serial port. I either had to purchase a new scanner or this adapter. It is a no brainer.

Cons: I haven't found any yet.

Other: I only wish that I noticed the USB to parallell port adapter Sewell sells when I ordered this one and ordered both at the same time. OH well next time.

Does this product support usb 2? thanks.

Yes, the USB to Serial adapter will work in a USB 2.0 port. However, It does not require a USB 2.0 port due to the fact that the serial connection is much slower than USB 1.1 anyway. It will work fine on either a USB 2.0 or a USB 1.1 type port.

Does this device create a COM1 or COM2 port?

Yes, if it does not automatically assign the port as COM1 or COM2 when you plug in the cable, you can manually assign it to COM1 or COM2 in the device manager.
