Explanation of Signals and Conversion
This converter translates digital signals into analog signals while keeping the 6 different channels of sound separate (5 surround sound channels and one subwoofer). The digital signals that this product converts come in two different forms: Toslink or Digital RCA, but both forms use a similar type of signal called SPDIF. The only difference is that Toslink sends SPDIF over optical cable and digital RCA sends it over copper cable.
Whether you have digital RCA or Toslink, this converter will work for you. The 5.1 channel DTS or Dolby signal coming in on a single Toslink or digital RCA cable is broken up by this converter into six signals that pass through 3 dual channel 3.5mm analog audio ports. Included with the product are 3.5mm to dual RCA adapters in case you prefer 6 RCA connections.
These three 3.5mm audio ports output the following signals: one outputs the center sound and subwoofer channels, another 3.5mm output handles the front left and front right sound channels, and the third 3.5mm audio port offers the left and right side sound channels. Included adapters allow you to convert these three 3.5mm ports into 6 RCA ports in total.
Multiple Inputs
For more involved sound setups where there are more than one video sources to be connected to the analog sound system, this product offers two Toslink inputs, one digital RCA input, and an auxiliary analog stereo input that passes analog audio through without any conversion. This allows you to hook up multiple devices without having to switch out cables.
