"Great experience and exactly what I was looking for. I would definitely shop with Sewell again."

The USB 2.0 to IDE adapter allows you to connect one ATA or ATAPI mass storage device, such as a hard drive, CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, or DVD-ROM drive to your computer through a USB port.

Looking for a USB to IDE adapter for your laptop hard drive? Simply add the 2.5" to 3.5" IDE converter to your order.

The USB to IDE adapter is six inches long. If you want it to go farther, just add a USB extension cable to your order.

Remember how difficult it used to be to add a hard drive? You had to shut off the computer, remove the case, and plug the hard drive in to the motherboard - then you had to worry about whether or not the computer would reboot with the new drive installed. Now all you have to do is plug this adapter into a USB port and attach the hard drive to the adapter.

We've also developed and sell FastLynx, the leader in fast, reliable file transfer. You can use FastLynx to transfer files quickly and efficiently between your internal and external hard drives. FastLynx can also help you to automate repetitive file management tasks by using scripts.

Save money and get the USB to IDE adapter with included 3.5 to 2.5 inch converter, if you're intending to go to a 2.5-inch IDE connector.

Best Adapter Available

Pros: The only USB to IDE adapter that works reliably!

Cons: The USB cable is too short. More expensive than others, especially if you factor in the USB extension cable needed to make this more convenient to use.

Other: We have purchased the other USB-IDE adapters that Sewell offers, as well as models several other vendors and this is the only one that works consistently. All the others work some of the time with some drives, but more often than not, you have to plug and unplug the USB cable in many time to get the computer to recognize the drive if you can get it to recognize the drive at all. We have also experienced problems when doing large file transfers with a number of the other brands, but never have had a problem with this one. So if you place any value on your time this is the one to get, even though you will need to keep a short USB extension with it because the cable is so short. I spoke recently to the tech who had originally recommended this adapter to us and his experience has been the same as ours. Would have given it 5 stars if the cable was longer.

Does this adapter power the HDD as well or do I need to hook up a power supply to the drive as well?

Yes, you will need an additional power source. The USB to IDE adapter comes with the power adapter that you will need.

This cable is for Notebook to desktop computer only, correct? Is there such a cable to transfer data from Notebook to another Laptop?

This cable is used to hook a desktop hard drive (not the whole desktop computer) to a USB port on any computer (notebook or desktop). You can use our USB to IDE adapter with both 2.5" and 3.5" connectors, part SW-1321 to go from either a desktop or laptop hard drive to any computer with USB.
