|"Best of all, this thing doesn't require a Core i7 rig to operate, so your 5 year old corporate laptop should be plenty to handle the rigors of powering a 24-inch LCD via a dusty old USB socket." --|
|"Installation takes around 60 seconds and six Minidecks can be used at once to extend your desktop to six monitors." --|
The Sewell Minideck USB to DVI/VGA display adapter is like an external video card you connect to your system, adding an extra monitor (supporting native resolutions of screens up to 24") to your desktop through a single USB port.
Once you have multiple monitors connected to your computer system, you will be able to use them in 'extended desktop mode' which means you can use all screens like one contiguous screen, or 'mirror mode' which shows the same image on both screens at all times.
Resolution Improvements From Past Models
The main improvement from past models is its new resolution capabilities. The Minideck can support up to 1920 x 1200 (native 24" resolution), 1920 x 1080 (1080p: Full HD for HDTVs), and 2048 x 1152.
How This Works
Installation is as easy as using the included CD to install the DisplayLink driver (or downloading the driver if you have a Mac), and connecting the USB and video cables.
Every Minideck comes with a DVI to VGA adapter so you can use a VGA monitor, and a DVI to HDMI adapter so you can go straight to your HDTV with beautiful 1080p. This is possible due to the Minideck's DVI-I (Analog and Digital integrated video) output. You will also need a separate audio cable to run from your computer to your TV's RCA audio inputs if you are planning on watching video with sound.
You can connect up to 6 Minidecks to your system to connect up to six displays to your computer. You can set screens to 'mirror mode' or 'extended desktop mode.'

Pros: This was my first purchase from Sewell, I am most impressed with their accuracy and timely service. The product worked great, and the price was competitive. I have recommend Sewell to my workplace, as well as friends.

Pros: I used the old Sewell USB to DVI (SW-8769) and needed to get another one (I gave the other one to a co-worker). This one is great - it's pretty similar except now it will drive my 24" monitor at 1920x1200 (native resolution).
Other: Keep up the great work!

Pros: These are inexpensive and work great. Every one we've used has been simple to install and flawless in operation. For business oriented (non-video) use, the display quality and response is indistinguishable from displays connected to physical video cards. With 1 or 2 of these on a 32 bit system or up to 6 on a 64 bit system, we've seen no problems with memory, system performance or anything else.
Cons: We were unable to get 4 of them to work at the same time on a customer's 32 bit Win7 PC. Initial screen display worked ok, but as the customer ran things that changed what was displayed, all kinds of quirky things started happening and the displays got all messed up. We suspected some sort of memory issue, so we switched to 64bit Win7, and have not had a problem since. Also, they are not at all useful for streaming images like NetFlix or Hulu. The sound keeps going but the video stalls out.
Other: I have been using 1 of these for about a year on my personal system and got a second a couple months ago. The system they're on (64bit Win7) also has 4 other monitors connected to physical video cards. No problems. As a stress test for a customer, we tried connecting all 6 monitors using Sewell USB adapters for about a day. Again, no problems whatsoever for still images. We have installed 5 of these on customer computers, have no problems and would not hesitate to install more.

My notebook has an intel 4 series chipset that doesn´t support rotating my desktop 90 degrees. I would like to use a 22inch monitor in portrait/tilted orientation. Can i use a minideck to help me out?
Yes, this should work well for you. The included driver application has a tool that will let you set the resolution and rotation easily from the taskbar,

Will this work with a Power PC mac mini 1.25mhz
Yes it will, as long as you are running OS X for your O.S. I was actually using 4 of these this morning on our Mac Mini and it worked great.
