Pros: Few, low costCons: This style of crimper came with my bundled set (Network cable, crimper, tester) and I found that it fails when making RJ45 connections - the terminals are 'canted' in the connector, with one side proper depth, the other side not deep enough.Other:
Pros: I'm not an installer by trade, so I don't terminate cables very often, just in general IT and construction projects. But I guess I do it enough to wear out my first set of cheap tools. My cheapo ebay cable tester started showing opens on pins 3 and 4. (I did an embarrassing amount of running back and forth/cussing before I realized the problem was my tester) So that got me shopping around. My old crimper has only set 7/8 teeth for years, so I always have to flip the head around and crimp it a second time to get that last pin. ...and I was almost out of cat5 RJ45s... so this kit started to look like a really good deal. What I like: The tester is pretty basic. Nothing fancy, but it is better in essentially every way from my old tester, so I'm pretty satisfied. The on/off/slow switch is easy to use and seats nicely into each position (not so with the old) The one RJ45 (8P8C) jack will test both ethernet and phone lines (my old tester had separate 6P6C testers for phone wires, and you you had to test phones using that, which would be fine, but I've made phone connections going from RJ45 to RJ11 and I had to build a little nest of couplers and leads to test it right). It's even less ugly than my old tester. (though, it isn't going to win any design awards or anything) The crimper is sturdy. The grips are a textured plastic, not rubbery, and there is a retainer clip so they can't pull off. Reasonably comfortable to squeeze. And the crimping di
Pros: This is a great starter kit. I like to make my own cables (RG 45) and give a hand to other good folks. Perfect..Cons: I ain't got noneOther: Give more flash to the box. Zap it it's really a great novice purpose.
