Overview

Anatomy HDMI Cable

These Premium high-speed HDMI cables support Ultra HD, resoultions up to 4k@60hz, deep color, all while supporting 4:4:4 chroma. A whopping 18Gbps bandwidth makes it all possible. They are future-proof, supporting HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 signals.

Precise Construction Where It Counts

The main difference between our Standard and our Premium HDMI cable is in bandwidth capability which is a measurement of how well the cable can conduct a signal and block interference. Our Standard HDMI cable supports up to 4K at 30Hz while this Premium cable can do 4K at 60Hz (and still support full 4:4:4 color space). So what's the big difference between the two when it comes to physical construction?

Inside HDMI Diagram

There are several ways to achieve higher bandwidth to pass the higher specs and many HDMI cable makers often decide to increase the gauge of the conductors inside the cable. This battles attenuation (signal loss due to the natural resistance in copper) but also causes the cable to be thick and difficult to work with (especially when sending through walls and conduits). Thicker cables can also torque the HDMI ports on expensive equipment.

The better way to achieve HDMI 2.0 specs is to construct the cable with precision and to use high-purity materials in the conductor and shielding. Twisting the conductors at the correct frequencies will block cross talk and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Purer copper reduces attenuation. Comprehensive shielding using both foil and braided style blocks both high and low EMI more successfully. High-quality processes and materials ensure full specs with thinner conductors.

Easy to Manage

With this higher-level of precision comes the benefit of using thinner-gauge conductors. Whether you're a home user or if you need to wire a 20-screen video wall, easy-to-manage cables are the best way to prevent a headache. With thinner gauges come the ability to easily snake through conduits or make right-angle turns around corners.

The Exoskelton™ mesh jacket comes in handy since thinner conductors can potentially become brittle if kinked. Exoskeleton ensures that when you're making those 90-degree turns, you're not harming those conductors.

4K 30Hz vs 4K 60Hz

As our TVs get bigger and bigger, so does the perceived difference between refresh rates. This cable supports 4K 60Hz while our standard cable supports 4K 30Hz, but why should you care?

As you know, video is simply a bunch of images played rapidly to give the illusion of movement. More images viewed per second equates to more-realistic video. Refresh Rates (measured in Hz) are what is used to describe the number of unique images played per second. 30 Hz means that you're seeing 30 unique images per second while 60Hz doubles the amount of images per second.

But Wait -- I thought the human eye couldn't detect individual frames much past 24 frames per second. -- That is technically true; the human eye is thoroughly convinced that they are seeing a moving image even at 24 Hz. Higher Hz rating actually makes fast-moving objects look more realistic and less blurry/jumpy.

Battling Motion Blur -- One of the outcomes of having a low Hz rating is that fast-moving objects start to look blurry. This is actually a feature of your display-- it is trying to compensate for the jarring nature of jumpy image animation. A football travelling 30 yards/second would technically only show one frame per yard when seen at 30Hz, making that throw seem unrealistic to our eyes. The TV must therefore employ motion blur or ruin the viewing experience.

Motion blur is a lot less distracting than the actual jumpiness of an image, but neither motion blur nor jumpiness are desired when watching action flicks, playing a video game, or watching sports. For those types of video content, we highly recommend that you do not settle for 30Hz.

Compatible with HDMI 2.0 Specs

HDMI has released new specs increasing the available features offered by HDMI devices. One of the biggest improvements is an increased bandwidth (18Gbps). This new bandwidth allows HDMI to carry much more vital information. Now HDMI can support 4k resolutions at 60 fps and Deep Color. It also supports 32 channel audio and the 21:9 aspect ratio (4096x2160), and several other important updates. Find out more about HDMI version updates.

In addition to supporting all of the HDMI 1.4 specs, all of Sewell’s cables support the new HDMI 2.0 standards. High quality, a great price, and support for the latest HDMI specifcations all make Sewell HDMI cables the perfect choice for you home entertainment system.
