Okay, I'm a bit confused as to what this product does. I'm looking for a way to hook my Wii to the internet. Does this product replace the need for a wireless router in that case?

Yes, this product will function like a wireless router so you can connect your Wii to the internet

Do they sell something like this in stores?

It is doubtful that you would find such a niche product in a retail store, but some specialty game stores may have this product or a product like it. Best of luck.
