Sewell Silverback S4 HDMI Cable

Our Silverback S4 series HDMI cable is our entry-level HDMI cable and is capable of 4K 30Hz, 1080p 60Hz, 7.1 surround-sound, audio return channel (ARC), 3D, ethernet (HEC), and of passing all versions of HDCP. They carry a CL3 rating making them safe for installing behind walls at home or in public/commercial settings. Their gold-plated connectors resist corrosion and keep connectivity optimal.

The Best Value in HDMI Cable

Great high-speed HDMI cables with 3D and 4k support, Ethernet channel, audio return channel, and more don't have to cost a lot. Sewell standard grade high-speed HDMI cables are perfect for everyday use. This cable meets or exceeds all HDMI v1.4 specifications to preserve the highest quality image and sound. For HDMI 2.0 specs, check out our S6 series of HDMI Cable.

Supports 4K Resolutions

This cable can support 4K 30Hz. 4K resolutions add twice the number of pixels over the previous 1080p spec, allowing you to see a whole lot more detail in the video image. More and more content is becoming available these days in the 4K resolution, making this a great choice for years to come.

4K HDMI Cable

30 Hz vs 60 Hz Refresh Rates

You've probably started to see the Refresh Rate listed next to resolutions a lot more these days than in the past. For example, this S4 cable could be called "4K cable" but we typically call it "4K 30Hz cable" (which is the HDMI v1.4 standard) and we often call our S6 cable "4K 60Hz cable" (which is the HDMI 2.0 standard). This is because when you get to really big resolutions like 4K, the difference in refresh rates becomes more noticeable.

Simply put, 30 Hz refreshes all of the pixels on the screen 30 times a second while 60 Hz can refresh the screen 60 times per second, requiring twice the video bandwidth!

But what does it really mean for the user experience? It doesn't make a huge difference to the viewing experience if you are watching slow-moving content (like maybe that documentary about the Roosevelts you've been meaning to get to), but there's a dramatic difference when watching fast-moving content (like an action flick, video gaming, or Monday night football). Sports these days are broadcast in 60Hz so you can see fast-moving images in detail, like a ball fly quickly through the air without noticeable jumpiness or blur. If you love watching sports in 4K, you should definitely check out our 4K 60Hz cable.

TVs have dealt with low refresh rates for decades and have mitigated the perceived choppiness of the fast-moving image by using a technique called 'motion blur.' Instead of showing you a choppy image that will be jarring to the eye, TVs will often 'fill in the gaps' by creating a slightly blurry image when an object is travelling too quickly for the refresh rate to show it smoothly. Whether you are dealing with choppiness or motion blur, neither are ideal for gaming or watching fast-moving objects.

This cable supports v1.4 specs. Check out the HDMI v2.0 cable here. You can also find out more about HDMI version updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the outer diameter of your HDMI cables?
A: The S4 and T4 Series cables are 8mm the S6 premium cables are 10mm and the thin 4K cables are 4mm in diameter.

Q: Will this device operate with any type of HDMI signal?
A: Yes, this cable is compatible with all HDMI protocols. If you need 4K @ 60Hz or HDR we recommend our S6 or Thin Cables.

Q: Is this cable in wall rated?
A: Yes

Q: Can HDMI cables transmit reliably over 50 ft.
A: Standard HDMI cables have difficulty transferring a signal further than 50 ft without a booster or repeater. Our 75 and 100 ft HDMI cables have a booster in the heads in order to reach the extra length. Our Fiber HDMI Cables can reach up to 330 ft.

Q: Will these cables work for Sewell splitters or switches?
A: All of our HDMI Cables and will work with any of our HDMI Switches or Splitters. If you need 4K @ 60Hz or HDR we recommend our S6 or Thin Cables along with a 4k SplitDeck or SwitchDeck

Q: Can I run these HDMI cables on an outdoor run?
A: These cables are not outdoor rated and the PVC jacket will probably degrade over time. If you are running it through conduit underground you may still be fine using these cables.

Q: Do your premium S6 cables come in 50 ft and longer lengths?
A: Our premium cables do not currently come in 50 ft and longer lengths due to bandwidth limitations of 4K @ 60Hz and HDR. We are working on new solutions to this going forward.

Q: Are these active or passive cables?
A: All of our cables are passive with the exception of the SW-2701-75 and SW-2701-100 which have active boosters.

Q: Can I run HDMI cables near fluorescent lights?
A: Yes, fluorescent lights should not interfere with the HDMI signal.

Q: Are the connections gold plated?
A: Yes, all of our HDMI cables have gold plated connectors.

Q: What does it mean that this cable includes ethernet? I don't see an ethernet connector?
A: These HDMI cables include an ethernet channel that allows compatible devices to share their internet connection through the HDMI cable instead of having to run a separate ethernet cable to each device. This is not a separate connector.

Pros: A very sturdy, well-built cable. No noticeable loss of signal for the length cable. Worth the price.

Cons: None so far.

Other: Using it to connect the HDMI output of my desktop computer to the HDMI input of my 61" JVC projection HDTV. Worked great from the start. I would not hesitate to order another one if needed.

good cable

EV - 11/13/2012 12:25:06 PM

The cable is suprisingly heavy and thick. I was expecting a thinner cable for the price I paid. Connected this to my PC and am using my LED TV to play content from the internet. No issues that I can see with quality, data rate or signal loss.

is this the wire and connectors to use to connect my laptop to the tv screen?

As long as your computer and TV both have HDMI on them then yes this cable will work. Otherwise, if your computer only has VGA but your TV has HDMI you will need a VGA to HDMI converter like our SW-9393 or the SW-29073. Or if your computer only has VGA and your TV is not a High Definition TV you will need just a PC to TV conerter like the SW-23000 or the SW-22050.
