"Great experience and exactly what I was looking for. I would definitely shop with Sewell again."

Overview

The connector on most parallel printers is called Centronics. However, several HP printer models use a connector that is about half the size of the standard Centronics connector, called mini-Centronics.

This Centronics to mini-Centronics adapter converts the Centronics connector of a parallel cable (or USB to parallel adapter) to a mini-Centronics allowing you to use your parallel cable or adapter to connect to your mini-Centronics printer.

Pros: Fit the HP LaserJet 1100 mini printer plug.

Cons: Computer did not recognize Parallel to USB Printer cable. Might need a specific driver for the cable.

Other: I would recommend contacting the manufacturers to verify compatability before purchasing. Sewell response: Yes, please contact us if you purchased the USB to Parallel adapter from us - it should be compatible with the LaserJet 1100.

Pros: This adapter was also used with a USB to Parallel adapter for my HP LaserJet 1100. Both adapters allowed you to hook-up my LaserJet via USB

Cons: NONE....

Old Centronics Printer now New USB Printer

Pros: Hewlett Packard produced a mini Centronics connection on some of their laser printers. On upgrading to a new laptop, the old Centronics port was replaced by USB ports. A USB to Centronics cable still did not fill the need. By adding the mini Centronics adapter, the printer runs just as it used to run. Truly an easy full-featured solution in my case.

Cons: It does extend the length of the connection at the back of the printer, a small penalty for regaining use of a good printer as compared to buying a new printer.

Question:

I bought a USB to Parallel Converter (1284), but now need the Mini-Centronics converter. Will this work with my iMac OS-X?

Answer:

It does not matter what operating system you are using with this converter more so it matters if your printer is mini centronics or not. The cable you bought has the drivers built in to it for the Mac OS X system.

Question:

I am trying to connect an HP LaserJet 3100se printer to a Netgear PS101 print server. Will this product (SW-2104) work for me? Are there any compatibility issues? Do I need to install any special drivers? Thanks!

Answer:

Assuming that the PS101 can drive your printer (contact netgear to be sure) this will adapt the connection to fit your printer.
