Overview
How do you go about choosing the right connector for your cable? There are a few subtle differences in appearance and function between the solid and the stranded connectors that are easy to miss.
Solid: Longer, staggered connectors straddle the conductor Only work with a solid Cat5e cable
Stranded: Pointed, shallow connectors pierce jacket and connect to strands Only work with a stranded Cat5e cable Need to make contact with each strand

Cat5e RJ45 connector

Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: I found these very difficult to use. To keep the wires long enough to reach the pins and still keep enough jacket to crimp in place, there wasn't enough room in the neck of the connector for the 1 or 2 wires reaching over another. Also, the channels for each wire were so small I couldn't even get the wires to go in some of the connectors. One that I managed to assemble would fall out of the ethernet port since the little catch tab did not have a large enough catch to keep it from falling out. I ended up not using these and buying some local, which were very easy to attach to the wire and stayed in the port. I gave these away.
