Overview

Ghost Wire

Hide your Speaker Wire in Plain Sight.

The biggest problem in setting up a home theater is figuring where to run the wires. When tearing up your wall is not an option you are often left with unsightly, messy looking wiring around the edge of the room. Ghost wire gives you flat neat wire runs on your floor, walls, or ceiling, giving your installation a clean, classy look without drilling any holes.

Easy Connections with Included Terminal Blocks

Ghost Wire Termination and Installation

  1. Peel back and trim adhesive backing to expose about 1" of the adhesive bottom side of the Ghost Wire
  2. Cut around exposed conductors and remove backing.
  3. Separate White Backing from the topside of the conductors in order to expose a clean copper surface. Place removed White backing on the bottom side- the adhesive side- of the conductor.
  4. Clean off any remaining adhesive on the top side of the conductor using rubbing alcohol or another solvent.
  5. Trim off tips of conductors so that you have a nice clean conductor tip.
  6. Slide conductors into clips on the terminal block then snap terminal block shut.

Installation

  1. Clean surface VERY WELL with soap and water when possible.
  2. Terminate Ghost Wire as shown above. Allow a little bit extra length in case of problems.
  3. Test terminated Ghost Wire with speakers to ensure that there are no problems.
  4. Starting from one end, expose adhesive and apply Ghost Wire, pressing firmly along center and edges of Ghost Wire as you go.
  5. Connect your speakers and enjoy your new setup.

Pros: The ghost wire a real improvement to ugly exposed.

Cons: First time using this type of (relatively expensive) ghost wire and it was a pain to install. 1. I wish the box with wire mailed to me had a sheet of instructions included. No message there, not even a mention that you need to go online to find instructions. The video instructions are valuable, to be sure, but it would help to have them written down in one place to read. 2. It was next to impossible to slide the exposed speaker wire into the clips on the two conductors (or are those called terminal blocks?). I wonder if the screw-on terminal blocks/conductors that I noticed in an online demo are easier to manage than the clips. Even the demonstration online showed the experienced instructor struggling to get the wire into position under the clamps. The copper wire simply bends into a glob when trying to slide it under the clamps (even with cut white backing stuck onto the underside as shown in the video). Surely someone can come up with a better design. 3. The exposed ends of the wires that are connected to and leave the terminal block/conductor (to be attached to the back of the speaker and amplifier) need to be longer. We tried to remove some of the plastic coating to lengthen the exposed wire so it would slip more easily into the openings on the back of our speaker and amplifier, but in the process cut one of the wires. Give people more wire to work with. Simple design issue. 4. It was not hard to stick the wire to the wall/woodwork where it was installed. Turning corners (creating a fold) took a little finesse.

Other: I don't need a response and I don't need to have this made public--but you can do so. More important is that you folks know about the issues I experienced. THANKS for asking.

How wide are the tapes; 4 & 2 conductor?

Pros: none

Cons: none

Other: If only someone would be able to say how WIDE these tapes are I would buy some. Surely this is something that should be included in the SPECIFICATIONS - but alas it is not. The Product Manager should look into this.
