    • In most cases powered hubs act as a non-powered hub when they are not plugged in. The ability to power it externally is a feature that expands the uses of your hub. USB 2.0 is considerably faster than 1.1

  • What type of connector does this hub use to connect to the computer USB port?
    • It uses a mini-B connection that is on the right side of the unit. Please take a look at the sixth picture (click on the main picture and a window will pop up showing more pictures) and you'll see the connector. It comes with the cable to connect to your computer.

  • I have an external hard drive that has one usb port. I also have one laptop that is connected to that usb port and it works fine. I just bought another laptop that has usb ports and would like to hook that 2nd laptop into the same external drive. Since the external drive only has one usb port, can I use this usb 2.0 hub 4 ports to connect the external drive into the hub and then from the hub into both laptops?
    • External USB hard drives can only be connected to 1 computer at any given time. Really your only option for connecting the drive to 2 computers would be to use a manual USB switch. This would allow you to switch which computer the drive is connected to with the touch of a button. That is going to be the best solution for using a USB hard drive on two computers. The only way to have a hard drive accessible from 2 computers at the same time would be to use a network based storage system instead of USB.
