Standard 100Base-TX Ethernet is limited in the length it can run. It is limited to 100 meters (330 feet). Intellinet has developed the 100Base-TX to 100Base-FX media converter to allow you to improve the distance of your network.
Fiber Optics
Fiber optic networks use light waves to transmit signals rather than electronic pulses. This improves the quality of the signal over greater distances with increased accuracy and speed. Depending on the type of optical network you use, you can run a maximum of 400 meters with half-duplex connections or 2 kilometers with full-duplex connections. Fiber optic cable is also impervious to electromagnetic distortion. It remains free of interference because it uses light waves instead of electrons to transmit data.
Intellinet's media converter allows you to use your existing RJ45 connections and converts them to an SC fiber connector to extend your network. If you use another converter you can return the signal back to RJ45. The converters will maintain the transfer rate of your network regardless of the distance between the converters.
Single-Mode
This converter is a single-mode converter which means retains higher fidelity of the signals over longer distances. Single mode uses a higher bandwidth than multi-mode fibers which mean it can carry a larger signal with the same distance. Single-mode can transmit data at a rate of 10 Gigabits per second.
