Dave - Doesn't work
6/24/2008 10:34:28 AM
1 stars

Pros: Would be great if it worked.

Cons: Same problems as Eric. The on-screen menu doesn't work and the video is unviewable -- even at 800x600 60Hz which the unit claims to support. The "Manhattan" company has no web site or support mechanism. The users' manual is spare and no help.

Other Comments: This is the second Manhattan product I've purchased with the same unsatisfied results. I wouldn't recommend their products.

Eric - Problems

2 stars

Pros: Small, compact, USB powered - Seemed like a good idea

Cons: Video was a little jittery, the control buttons would bring up the menu and the up/down would navigate but the left/right had no effect so no setting could be accomplished. A white background came thru a dirty white with washed out colors. Since we could not change the contrast or brightness, we did not know if this was correctable. The Image also seemed jittery. The Instructions were very short - and not really adequate to explain some of the functions. They were no help in trying to make adjustments as they neither confirmed nor denied our understanding of how we should be trying to work the menu. Finally the unit died after a few hours of use. Possibly all our problems are due to a defective unit. It seems to be a heat problem as after it sat for a few hours it ran again for 10 minutes and then stopped again. The situation was the Video output was scrambled and unusable when it overheated.

Other Comments: Will Return it and see how a new one works for another update.

Pros: Very easy to hook up, still uses the composite port and svideo unlike most splitters today that only have component video.

Cons: Uses a USB port on computer for power. Bad because your computer only has 6 USB ports on it, so to have to use one of the 6 for JUST power for this unit when you could use that port for data on another peripheral; this is the only bad part.

Other Comments: great product works great.

Pros: Easy to use.

Cons: Doesn't come with an AC power alternative in case PC USB connection is not available. I didn't notice any supplied paperwork that explained the dip switch settings. I had to play with the settings to get the correct picture display.

Other Comments: Sewell Note: US residents should have both dip switches set to down. The unit does normally come with a manual that mentions this.

JimD - A Fine PC to TV and Composite Converter
2/18/2010 10:55:01 PM
4 stars

Pros: This converter is easy to hook-up and it works! Though its name addresses only one attribute, PC to TV, it really has two. The second is that it converts the PC to its monitor signal (VGA) to composite. I have old, but still very good composite recording and display equipment. No need to trashcan it and get the new digital; this converter allows me to keep using my composite electronics. Back to the PC to TV signal, VGA. The problem there is that there are several variations of TV VGA signals. This converter puts out many different types of TV VGA; two problems cared for in one box.

Cons: Although the composite signal makes a perfect picture reproduction with my equipment the TV picture is a light, faded. Though the converter has adjustments they do not care for the problem. For sure not impossible, but it is lighter than a normal picture. Another thing to be aware of is that VGA has no sound. Not a real problem because the PC does. Both composite equipment and TV have sound in. The solution is to just hook-up your own simple cable between the PC and the electronics your using.

Other Comments: Of interest, the converter gets power from the PC USB port. Lastly Sewell says they have another "converter" at twice the price that produces a bright TV picture.
