How This Extender Works
Due to HDMI's limited distance specification, the signal can only travel about 20 feet between its source and display before imperfections begin to show in the picture and audio. This kit boosts the signal and sends it over two Cat5 cables in order to overcome this problem.
Simply connect your HDMI source (or DVI source using an HDMI-DVI adapter) to the sender box using the included HDMI cable. Two Cat5 cables up to 200 feet long connect the sender box to the receiver, which sits next to your HDMI (or DVI) display device. Since HDMI and DVI uses the same video signal, you can switch out either (or both) the source or display for DVI devices (using an HDMI to DVI adapter).
The New HDMI
HDMI is a relatively new connector that is based on DVI-HDCP. It stands for high definition multimedia interface and uses essentially the same signal as DVI but combines audio into a smaller, more convenient connector.
HDCP Defined
HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is a protocol embedded in HDMI signals and is a standard employed to prevent video data piracy. If your equipment is not HDCP compliant, your resolution will be limited to 480P (very small) or your signal can even be reduced to "snow".
This Extender is HDCP Compliant.
