  • I have an Acer Aspire 5610Z, running Vista. First of all will this work. Second of all, I have noticed that some of the PCMIA cards have an external power supply. This one does not, Why? I am ready to purchase this pending an answer, I am only using it for data transfer between my miniDv cam and laptop.
    • This card will work on any model or computer that has a PCMCIA port, but it has not yet been approved for Vista. The reason many cards have external power supplies is that laptop pcmcia cards usually cannot provide enough power to power an external device that gets its power through firewire. If you are just transfering data that will not matter.

  • I have a Sony Digital Video Camera (DCR-TRV103) and I purchased the i.Link cable for that camera which had the firewire attachement on one end. Will that end fit this PCMCIA card?
    • Most i.Link (AKA Firewire) cables for cameras have a 4 pin port on one side that goes into the camera and a 6 pin to go to the computer. Assuming that your cable is like that, the 6 pin connection is exactly what you'd need to connect to this PCMCIA Firewire card.

  • Could you use this card to perform multicapture events from 2 high speed video cameras? Also are firewire cables supplied with purchase and if so are they 6-pin to 6-pin or 4-pin to 6-pin. Thank you
    • This will install a full functioning IEEE1394 (FireWire) controller and will allow you to connect multiple devices simultaneously to your computer. It should work well for your application. It does not include any cables.

  • I have a digital video camera( tape) and i need to transfer(copy) the video to my laptop or desktop can the PCMCIA CARD solve my problem.and i need to ask you if there is a software to copy this video file.
    • If your digital video camera has a FireWire port and the laptop you are using has a PCMCIA slot in it, this would be exactly what you need. If you are using windows XP or Vista you could simply use the included windows movie maker software to capture and edit that video. There are other software packages you could purchase that would also help you do that.
