  • Will this work to connect my GeForce FX5500 (with DVI output) to a HDTV via component cables?
    • This adapter will only work with video cards that natively support outputting a component (YPbPr) signal through the DVI port. Unfortunately, we do not have a list of which video cards do or don't support that. To find out if your video card supports that, you would need to call the manufacturer of your video card and ask them. If they do tell you that your video card can do it, this should work just fine with your video card.

  • could i connect my ps3 outputting through component video to this adapter, and connect the dvi-d side of the adapter to my non-hdcp dvi-d monitor? (would the picture be displayed, unlike if it was from hdmi to dvi-d on a non-hdcp monitor)
    • This product never works in the reverse direction, that is from a component source to a dvi display.

  • Will this work with an ATI all in wonder x 800 xl video card? Will this feed a Sony fd trinitron XBR wega kv-36xbr400 (it has component inputs)? I am curious on the need for dip switch settings as i see on the http://pinouts.ru website that all of the analog component outputs are integrated into a dvi connector. Should this not be a straight through wiring without the need for dip switches? thx jd
    • The dip switches on the unit offer constraints as to the resolutions supported, and the aspect ratio of the TV. It uses an ATI chip and does some (limited) active conversion. We do not have any compatibility information on your particular card model, I would recommend contacting the card manufactuer to see if it supports Sync-on-green video signals.

  • I have an HDTV with component video but NOT HDMI inputs. I want to use the HDMI video outpt of a PS3 (I want the upscaling that only comes out of the hdmi port). Could I use a SW-6181 to convert the HDMI to DVI and then the SW-4041 to convert the DVI to component (I know sound would not be converted or carried. I do not care about audio)? If so, am I correct that the HDMI to DVI conversion would be lossless, and the DVI to Component would be nearly so?
    • That will not work at all. You would be trying to run a digital signal into analog ports on your TV. Even before running into that problem the SW-6181 only has the pins for a digital signal while the SW-4041 needs the signal to come over the analog pins so there will not be any signal going between those two parts.

HDMI is protected by something called HDCP. HDCP is specifically built to prevent you from converting an HDMI or DVI signal that is protected by HDCP into component. It is actually illegal to sell anything within the U.S. that would allow you to convert the HDMI signal from the PS3 to a component signal.
