Setting up your modem

For Windows XP 32bit:

  1. Plug the modem into the computer and then insert the included driver CD into the computer.
  2. Open 'My Computer' and open the disc to see the files on it.
  3. Open the folder that is labeled "USB Modem"
  4. You will open the folder titled "Conexant"
  5. Find and open the folder "Win2k_XP"
  6. Run "Setup.exe" and follow the prompts until the Installation Wizard says "Success"

You should now be able to get online with the modem, make/receive calls, or send/receive faxes.

Windows XP 64bit:

  1. Follow Steps 1-4 from Windows XP 32bit above.
  2. Open folder "WinXP64"
  3. Run "Setup64.exe" and follow the prompts until the wizard says the software was installed successfully.

Vista/Windows 7* 32bit:

  1. Follow Steps 1-4 from Windows XP 32bit up top.
  2. Open folder "Vista32"
  3. Run "Setup.exe" and follow the prompts until the Installation Wizard says "Success"

Vista/Windows 7* 64bit:

  1. Follow Steps 1-4 from Windows XP 32bit up top.
  2. Open folder "Vista64"
  3. Run "Setup64.exe" and follow the prompts until the Installation Wizard says "Success"

*Note: Windows 7 uses the same drivers as Windows Vista. Also note that the driver install may fail on Windows 7. This is usually not a problem, it just means that Windows 7 already has the proper drivers for the modem. If that is the case proceed to Making sure your modem is connected and working.

Making sure your modem is connected and working

Windows XP:

  1. Open your Start menu
  2. Open your Control Panel
  3. If you aren't already on Classic View, select Switch to Classic View
  4. Open System
  5. Navigate to the Hardware tab
  6. Open your Device Manager
  7. Expand the Modems section
  8. If you can see the Conexant D850 56k V.9x DFVc Modem there your modem is installed and working properly.

Windows Vista/Windows 7:

  1. Open your Start menu
  2. Open your Control Panel
  3. If you aren't already on Small Icons, select select Small Icons from the dropdown in the upper right corner
  4. Open System
  5. Open your Device Manager
  6. Expand the Modems section
  7. If you can see the Conexant D850 56k V.9x DFVc Modem there your modem is installed and working properly.
