Maximize your Wii's potential with this simple
component cable for HDTVs.
Wii's Maximum Resolution
The cable that comes with your Wii is a composite cable. Composite is the simplest video format available for TVs and just utilizes the yellow RCA connection typically. This composite video connection only allows up to 480i resolution.
Your Wii however has the ability to show 480p. 480i is inferior, some would argue that it is only half as good as 480p because 480i (interlace scan) only changes half of the viewable pixels every frame of video, whereas 480p (progressive scan) will refresh all pixels at every frame of video. The result is smoother clearer graphics and animation. Because your Wii will be utilizing 3 RCA video connections rather than one, it will also improve the color depth naturally. Try it, it's mind blowing!
Set-Up
To use this cable, simply connect one end to the Wii connection and the other end to the Red/Green/Blue component RCA ports on your TV, with the audio Red/White RCA connecting to your TV's or audio system's audio-in port. After you've made that connection, simply open your Wii's video output settings menu and select 480p.
Mode Not Supported
A "Mode Not Supported" message is a semi-common problem. The most common cause of this is simply connecting the wrong RCA ports. Ensure that your red, green, and blue cables are connected to the correct red, green, and blue RCA ports on your TV. Also, sometimes the red audio cable is confused with the red component video cable. Make sure the red cable that is next to the white cable in the breakout is used for audio, not the red video port on your TV.
