Anonymous - Works better than Tritton USB to VGA Adapter
12/4/2007 11:44:19 AM
4 stars

Pros: Good picture quality and much faster graphics than Tritton USB to VGA adapters we have been purchasing.

Cons: Why is there no manufacturer name on the device or in the manual? This will make support in the future difficult. Or is the maker a fly-by-night company that won't stand behind their products?

Other Comments: Here is the OEM who makes the adapters video chip: http://www.displaylink.com/

Pros: ??? cant use it with non intel based mac mini

Cons: Mac drivers only support intel based macs!! Nowhere does it say this, even in the review. when you go to install the driver it will fail and say it will not work.

Other Comments: please update your site with this info so others won't get hosed.

KnightRyder - Undocking issues
2/15/2008 8:35:19 AM
3 stars

Pros: Works much better than the Tritton USB-to-VGA adapter for video, doesn't skip around and seems to remember the settings everytime...however...

Cons: The undocking feature on a Lenovo dock do not work because it says the USB to DVI device is in use so you have to actually stop the device before it will let you undock, which is an added step that is not fun!

Other Comments: On top of that, the Sewell tech support is useless since they don't make the drivers for the chipset as the previous reviewer already stated. You can contact DisplayLink at 650-838-0481...good luck!

Pros: Flexibility - allows me to keep one standard multiple monitor solution for desktops and laptops. Ease of installation - Installation able to be packaged for remote deployment. One-time driver install - Install the driver once, and connect as many as you need up to 6 per workstation. I can go on and on (See other comments)

Cons: Not able to be secured down. It can be easily taken from a desk since there's no way to lock it down. Would recommend possibly a "Kensington Slot" for next release.

Other Comments: I am currently working for a blue chip company oursourced to a financial company to review and approve hardware purchases and make recommensations for standard products. Recently, we've had a rash of bad luck with our previous dual monitor solution that was driven by an internal video chipset on the devices. I had been scouring the Internet in search of a new solution when I came across this obscure little box that would do USB2 to DVI connections. So, I decided to order three in to test them out. I figured if it was as good as they boasted, what harm would it do. Well, lemme tell you!!! This thing is incredible!!!! While we're a 95% PC-Based organization, this thing works for every machine we have in our inventory. I've tested it every which way you could possibly test. I've even seen it exceed the Manufacturer's resolution spec of 1600x1200 by going against a 20" and 22" wide-screen at 1680x1050 resolution. Once we found out how easy it was to deply and install, we immediately dropped out other solution and went full-tilt into Sewell. As a side note, I noticed about 3 weeks later that Tritton came out with something similar. I ordered two of those in for testing. While they were significantly less expensive, the installation was more cumbersome, and the drivers were not digitally signed by Microsoft. I couldn't with a clear conscience offer that to my customer as a standard option, and we stuck with the Sewell Card. We also packaged the installation piece to make it generally available to remote users in the organization to allow them to install without admin right requirements. This is good flexibility on Sewell's part and makes this product a slam-dunk in my book.

Pros: Im very pleased with the ease of set up and it performs as advertised. No need to open my desktop and replace video boards. We'll be able to use this device on any computer upgrade we receive in the future.

Cons: None so far.

Other Comments: I've let others know about this product and it will simplify getting dual screen set-ups for other employees. An excellent option for easily extending your desktop.
