  • I'm super uneducated about computer stuff so please forgive my dumb Q. When I plug this adapter in will I be able to extend my desk top or will monitors work separately? Basically I want to be able to be working on one screen then move my work to the other... will this item work for that?
    • Yes, this device will expand your desktop onto the second monitor, allowing you to work on both monitors as if it was one giant desktop.

  • I have two questions. The specifications say that the adapter handles resolutions up to 1280x1024 and it also says that it handles widescreen resolutions. What is the highest widescreen resolution handled by this adapter? Will it handle 1400X900 or do I need the high resolution version? Also, I am currently running my macbook in clamshell mode with an external monitor plugged into its DVI port. What I'd like to be able to do is plug one of your adapters into my USB hub so I don't have to plug in the DVI. However, my understanding is that a monitor must be plugged into a macbook in order for it to operate in clamshell mode. Do you know if this will work for me or will it only work when the laptop screen is open?
    • It will support your monitor at 1400 x 900. To my understanding, there is not a tool built into Macbooks that will let you change the behavior when the laptop is closed (i.e. shutting off the monitor but not the comptuer) You might be able to find a third party software tool that will allow you to set it up correctly, but we currently do not have a solution.

  • I am trying to use this external video card to connect my laptop to a projector through DVI or HDMI, mostly for presentation purposes and high resolution pictures. Would this allow me to do this? My projector does 1080p native out of the box, would the picture provided by this product be better than using a regular VGA cable. I am worried that since the picture will be coming out from a USB port into a DVI, it will suffer some loss of data in the process of converting. I already have a VGA to DVI-A adaptor from my laptop to the projector and it is a little better than just VGA to VGA. Now this adaptor I have it is just an adaptor, I don’t think it converts or improves the picture into a better one. Would your product be the answer to a clearer picture?
    • First off, this product has a max resolution of 1280x1024, which means that the highest HDTV resolution it supports is 720p. This adapter will not output a 1080p signal. Due to this fact alone it will probably not look as nice as a direct connection from your computer running at 1080p.
