Fuzzy-Wan - Works with virtual Windows PCs, too
3/3/2008 8:51:59 PM
5 stars

Pros: I'm using this to get around a limitation of VMware Fusion: lack of support for multiple monitors in Windows. I plugged it into my MacBook Pro, installed the *Windows* drivers in the virtual machine, et voilà. Instant second monitor.

Cons: The mouse gets squirrelly because it doesn't know what the @#$% is going on, but forcing Fusion to draw the mouse pointer in software pretty much fixes that.

Other Comments: I wasn't sure it would work, but I was cautiously optimistic about the DisplayLink technology. Turned out to be a good bet.

Pros: I looked high and low for an easy and affordable way to add multiple monitors to my MacBookPro. I finally stumbled across a forum post about the Sewell USB to DVI external video card which had just released Mac beta drivers. I took a chance and tried it.. it was exactly what I was looking for. I plugged it in, turned on my MBP and it worked instantly. I liked it so much I bought another one to use at work.

eBay Teacher - USB External Video Card

Pros: This item is wonderful. I wanted to set up 3 monitors on my computer and Dell wanted $500 for an internal video card. Great price and super fast installation. This was a fabulous alternative to Dell!!

Cons: None

Other Comments: I contacted the company prior to purchase and had my questions answered in quick easy to understand language. Highly Recommend!!

Pros: This is a great product. It is so nice to work on dual monitors. Upgraded to Windows 7 Beta and lost the driver a few months ago. Thanks for getting the driver update out ahead of Windows 7 release. Very much appreciated!!

Head Full of Blown Chips - I really like these
6/25/2009 2:25:59 PM
5 stars

Pros: Compact unit doesn't run too hot. Bus-powered, drivers under active development, and it can drive a 1680x1050 widescreen. Choice of white OR black USB cables. Speed is acceptable for 2D graphics, even under Windows virtualization.

Cons: Mini-USB connector not as secure as I'd like. OS X drivers are severely hobbled by a lack of Apple documentation/cooperation -- I wouldn't even bother unless they can overcome that hurdle. Doesn't get enough power from my monitor's internal hub (I recommend a good powered hub if your PC's USB ports are full).

Other Comments: Dual-head PCI cards are getting scarce, and I don't trust the cooling fans in the Jaton cards on the market. (ATI's FireMV cards are great but don't play nice with some onboard video chips.) When one of our Jaton cards died -- yep, the @#$% cooling fan -- I said to hell with internal cards and bought two of these. Costs twice as much, but well worth the peace of mind (and if death comes calling, odds are I only have to replace one of them). I've been using one of these puppies with my laptop for a while and it's never failed me, aside from the weak OS X support.
