Pros: I'm using this to get around a limitation of VMware Fusion: lack of support for multiple monitors in Windows. I plugged it into my MacBook Pro, installed the *Windows* drivers in the virtual machine, et voilà. Instant second monitor. Cons: The mouse gets squirrelly because it doesn't know what the @#$% is going on, but forcing Fusion to draw the mouse pointer in software pretty much fixes that. Other Comments: I wasn't sure it would work, but I was cautiously optimistic about the DisplayLink technology. Turned out to be a good bet. Was this review helpful? Pros: This is great for getting that third monitor you always wanted. It even actually works on MAC OS and Windows! I have been happy with it thus far.
It even came with two usb cables one white, one black in case you want everything to match. Cons: When the computer goes into standby you have to unplug it and plug it back in to get the 1680x1050 res, otherwise the max is the max of the lower end model (1280x1024) I don't know why, it just is.
If you run windows on a MAC via bootcamp and parallels or Vmware MAKE SURE to setup the computer to boot via parallels/vmware first OR uninstall the usb video while running windows in bootcamp/native mode. I had issues with windows trying to use the usb card as the primary monitor since the VM video card drivers where not installed yet.
Virtual Machines are a little sluggish when they are on the screen hosted by the usb card. Other Comments: I have not tried to get 4 monitors, but i will. Was this review helpful? Yes - NoHelpful to 1 out of 1 person voting. |
Pros: Small footprint. Multiple settings for various functions. Software controlled from desktop Cons: Only comes with 3" install disc - if you have slot load, you're in trouble. Downloaded driver does not fully install - however Vista took over and completed Other Comments: If you are a novice, beware. Is not simple to install on Vista - however, if you are a somewhat advanced computer tinkerer, it will be no problem - had it running in about 10 minutes, fine tuned in 15. Whether you like Vista or not is irrelevant - it's here, and new computers have it - would like to see Sewell update the drivers to be more Vista compatable. Purchased to use with laptop and desktop in office settings for presentation settings - the software has controllability to select right/left/mirror monitor, and also to turn off when you don't need it (I don't always need second monitor/projector). Do get some lag with You-Tube type videos - yeah, an adult that shows You-Tube/God-Tube as attention-getting fun videos. Resolution, even in the 1600X1200, is not crystal clear - thought it was projector, but get similar results on monitor. For Office2007 applications, ended up dropping rez to get better view - which is sad, because I have grown used to higher resolution for Office apps.
Overall - if you need a second screen for office meetings/projection settings, this works fine (especially when on a desktop or laptop that has no expansion/second video card capability). Accept it for that, and you won't be dissapointed in the resolution and clarity. If you are looking for a second monitor, go internal if able. Was this review helpful? Yes - NoBe the first to vote! |
