  • The modem connected to the (onboard) serial ports on my pc do not work and I do not know why. Device manager says all the ports are working properly. I installed a serial pci card and my modem connected to it works fine. Now, my hp laserjet 1100 connected to the lpt1 port also does not work. I strongly suspect it is the same problem with the serial ports. I plan to add a parallel pci card. What do you think? Which card will you recommend?
    • The SW-1473 is a popular and reliable card. Personally I prefer the SW-6406 from Lava. It has a simpler driver installation and a more robust chipset, but it is more expensive.

  • I need a parallel port to do my electronic project. I have a inspiron 530S from dell. It has PCI_E1x16 slot. I don't know if SW-1473 will compatible with my system. size? and window vista.
    • This card is a standard PCI card. It will not work in a PCI E slot. If your computer has a standard PCI slot available in it, this will work just fine. It does also work in Vista. If your computer only has PCI E (AKA PCI Express) slots on it, you could use the ST Lab Parallel I/O PCI Express Card, part SW-6581.

  • I recently purchased a new Dell computer, OS Windows XPS. Because it has no parallel port, I can not connect my scanner, DVC video capture device, or my 3D Studio Max Hardware Lock, all which are 25 Pin IEEE 1284. Which Paralelle PCI Card would work best for all peripheral devices I mentioned. SW-4301-2, SW-1473, SW-4301-1, or SW-1163? Thank you in advance.
    • All of those Parallel PCI cards that you mentioned install and act as true parallel LPT ports. All of them should work fine with all of those devices you mentioned. The only differences are the brands and how many ports they have.

  • I have software that works with a hardware dongle that must be on LPT1. When I install your card will it be LPT1?
    • Yes, this card will install as a normal LPT port. It can be assigned to any available LPT port 1-3.

  • I am new to this. I have an HP lazerjet 1100 printer and a Dell xp410 vista ultimate operating system. Would this card work with my printer?
    • This card will work in your Dell computer as long as your computer has an available standard PCI slot. These are generally very common in desktop computers, but you'll want to double check the specifications for your particular computer before purchasing the card. These cards do work with printers like the HP laserjet 1100.
