  • I'm planning a long DVI cable installation between a Computer and a Video Projector. I'm planning to connect one end of a 100 ft. cable to the computer and your Given DVI Booster on the other end. Then I will connect a 25 ft. cable between the booster and the Projector. Is this a satisfactory installation or is their more optimum way?
    • The DVI specifications detail that you shouldn't run a cable longer than 15 feet without a booster. So after your 100 foot run and booster you would have to use a cable shorter than 25 feet to ensure a good signal quality. As long as you stick with a cable 15 feet or shorter at the end of your run that should work just fine. Another option would be to use a DVI extender over cat5e. These will allow you to run inexpensive cat5 cable 150-220 feet with the DVI signal, depending on the unit you use. If you're wanting to run a resolution up near 1920x1200 or 1080p to the projector, you'll want to use the Intelix Video Balun, part SW-4632. If a resolution of 1600x1200 or 720p is acceptable you could use the Smart AVI DVI Extender, part SW-8538.

  • Will the DVI Booster work equally well with a DVI cable in a Projector application if the input is switched between DVI compter output or Other HDMI outputs from other sources (ie. DVD or Blueray devices)?
    • Yes, this would work with DVI and HDMI inputs. It is fully HDCP compliant and supoprts resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 or 1080p HDTV signals.
