Gefen Component and Stereo Analog Audio to HDMI Adapter Questions - EXT-COMPAUD-2-HDMI

• Will the SW-8331 adapter work in the reverse. I have an HD Monitor that only accepts componet anaolog video. I have an external tuner that only has HDMI out. I want to connect the two to get HD.
  • Unfortunately that adapter does not work in reverse. HDMI is protected by HDCP which has been specifically built so that you can only connect an HDMI source to an HDMI or DVI display that is HDCP compatible. If you were to try and convert the HDMI signal to component the HDMI source would detect that it is not connected to an HDCP compatible display and it would stop outputting video. This is done intentionally and is made so that you cannot convert an HDMI signal to go to a component display like you are wanting to do.

• All the reviews i see as far as aplication refer to x-box or PSP use..... in theory this should work for nintendo wii which is what i need it for, any confirmed sucess with the wii?
  • Yes, this should work with a Wii or any other component video device. We have not tested this device with a Wii ourselves, but it should work without any problems.
