Clearplay UpConvert HDMI DVD Player Reviews - CP-HDMI

Pros: Clearplay helps to allow families expand their movie viewing choices beyond G rating. Shipped and received in the expected amount of time. Relatively inexpensive monthly fee for filter updates. Customer service/tech support was excellent. They spent quite a bit of time with me. Dvd player functions well and quality of video good on older TV. Clearplay easy update program is good if you know the "trick".

Cons: Relatively expensive for a dvd player. Rcd unit but did not have flash drive,upon reporting to customer service they sent one, rcd flash in about a week. Updating the flash drive/filter is not as straight forward as it should be. Can get caught in an endless loop if you do not know the "trick". I use the clearplay easy update program. CAUTION must be used when playing any video beyond pg-pg13. Some of the nasty language is not caught and filtered or only partially filtered. Clearplay says that if you catch the time stamp on the recorder and contact them, they will update/edit the filter for the next update. This is good service response but unfortunate that the some of the bad stuff gets through.

Other Comments: Overall we are happy, but you cannot count on this system to eliminate problems completely.

Pros: Works great.

Cons: Using HDMI out of the box you get a blank screen and have to push the Video button on the remote a few times to change to the HDMI port. That is not documented in the instructions.

Pros: Skips and blocks out language, nudity, and violence based on your settings.

Cons: No clock display. No information on what each of the level of settings remove. Such as, disturbing set on least, medium, or most. What is considered disturbing? Dual layer dvd's take a really long time to load. When they do it says error bad disc. If you leave it even longer it will eventually load and you'll be able to play it. Expect it to take some time. The skipping is not as fluid as they claim but it's nice to cut out the garbage.
