Cat5e
Cat5e surpassed Cat5 specifications formally in 2001. Because of stricter adherence to the Cat5 specification, this enhanced version of Cat5 is recommended for wiring 1000BASE-T (gigabit) ethernet networks or slower (such as 100BASE-TX, or megabit networks).
Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)
A metal shielding over each pair of copper wires allows for protection against external electromagnetic interferences. These interferences can lead to data corruption which can lead to a slower network. With each data packet that doesn't make it to its destination, your system must resend, slowing things down considerably.

This cable comes in a continuous spool and feeds out of a box allowing for easy and practical cable production.
