  • I'm thinking about purchasing this awesome dockstation but I'm wondering what is the compatibility with linux distributions. Will it work under linux?
    • Unfortunately Belkin has only released Windows drivers for this product. Belkin does not list any compatibility with Linux at all.

  • I have a Dell XPS M2010 laptop running Windows Vista. I already have one extra DVI output built in. My monitor resolution is 1600 x 1050. The external monitor I currently have hooked up is also 1600 x 1050. With this product, would I be able to plug i
    • You certainly can. I'm actually doing something very similar right now.
The docking station also includes ethernet, audio, and extra USB ports, too. If you need just the display,I would actually recommend considering another product. The USB to DVI external video card is about $70 cheaper and will drive up to a 1680x1050 display via USB. The performance is comparable if not better than the Belkin.

  • I have an HP laptop with an external monitor (vga) port. Will this device still be functional when plugged into this docking station? (eg, will i be able to run two external monitors?)
    • The video connection on the docking station will function independently from your built in video port. This will allow you to connect a monitor both to the built in port and to this docking station for a total of 2 external monitors.

  • I have a sony vaio laptop with GeForce Go 7600, but I do not have a DVI or any digital output, only a VGA and S-Video. Would this item allow me to connect to my HDTV? playing movies on it? or is there any other alternatives? Sony actually sells a dock station for my laptop, and it connects to the bottom of the laptop so im assuming since it is not USB connection, then it would be connected directly to the motherboard, and it provides DVI-D output, USb blah blah, I can even connect a 2.5" HDD to it, but it stated clearly that I cannot use the default Intel display card, but I chose Geforce go 7600 when I bought this, so I am guessing my card is actually capable to output digital signal? or else how could the dock simply adding a DVI-D output allows me to output digital?
    • This belkin dock runs completely independently from your internal video card. The dock is it's own video card. It supports up to 1600x1200 resolution so it would not be able to run a 1080p signal, but would do 720p. Since the video card is not dependent on your built in video card this unit can output a digital signal regardless of what your other video card is capable of.

  • Does the unit have its own audio card as well and does it get the signal through the express port? Basically my T61 thinkpad does not have surround sound and only has a headphone output and I am looking to add a second monitor and speakers and did not think that having 5.1 surround was an option.
    • This dock has its own sound card built into it. Because of this, the sound will operate independent of your internal sound card. This dock will add 5.1 audio, even if your computer doesn't have that feature.
