Stay Away From Paper Cones: Go Kevlar
If you're hoping for professionally clear sound and also a long life span for your speakers you will want kevlar cones, not paper. Luckily, the cost of such materials have gone down and virtually any level of home theater enthusiast will get the best value with these speakers.
Power
These 5 1/4" speakers feature an RMS (running power) of 50W and a maximum output of 100W. The impedance level is a standard 8 Ohms, and the speakers also feature a 25ΦSwivel Dome Tweeter and a 25Φ K.S.V voice coil.
Cross Over Switch is Built-in
Setting up a complex system complete with a subwoofer or multiple sizes of in-wall/in-ceiling speakers? If so you're in luck with these speakers. If you are sending more power to some speakers than these, there is a built-in switch that allows you to set a 'filter' (aka cross over) that will only allow sound up to a certain barrier to be reproduced.
This means, if you have a high powered sub and a medium powered speaker (like these) you will be able to send the same powered signal to all speakers without fear that the sound will distort with your medium powered speakers. This is a common fine tuning done with professional sound rooms in order to get the optimal crystal clear sound.
Also, when mounting speakers in walls and ceilings, it is difficult to predict how it will end up sounding. There is a huge difference in resonance when installed in a wall or box, and these switches give you another option for limiting output when desired. These speakers feature 0 db, -3 db, and -6 db filters.
Need a different size? Check out: 5 1/4" ,6 1/2", and 8"pairs of speakers.
